Born in Sinjai South Sulawesi, 22 october 1936. After having passed preliminary, secondary and high schools, studied at the Civil Engineering Faculty of the Gajah Mada University, Jogyakarta, after one year quitted this university and started study at the lnstitute of Naval Architecture, Tokyo, and graduated as Master of Science in Naval Architecture in 1968.

Accomplished various tasks and assignments at the Ministry of Sipping as staff of the Bureau of Materials, preparation of the establishment of Ships Classification Society, the PN Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia, procurements of material and equipment in the scope of a Crash Program and Export Credit and appointed member of a team for procurement of passenger ships for PT Pelni. In 1987 appointed as Head of the Board of Management of the PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (Persero), this position was held till 1996.

In the field of education active during 1964-1970 in the Merchant Marine Academy, the Akademi Ilmu Pelayaran, Jakarta, and during 1965-1975 as extraordinary lecturer in the Shipbuilding Department of the Technical Faculty at the Hasanuddin University, Makassar.
